TOKYO (Kyodo) — Formula One’s Japanese Grand Prix is scheduled for April 7 next year, the first time that the race will take place in the spring, according to the 2024 World Championship calendar released Wednesday by its governing body FIA.
The Japanese Grand Prix has traditionally been held between September and November but will be next season’s fourth race. The 24-leg 2024 season begins in Bahrain in March and ends in Abu Dhabi in December.
Australia will stage the third leg and China the fifth.
The 2024 calendar “demonstrates some important steps towards our shared goals,” said Mohammed Ben Sulayem, president of the FIA, referring to the target of F1 being net zero in carbon emissions by 2030.
“We want to make the global spectacle of Formula 1 more efficient in terms of environmental sustainability and more manageable for the traveling staff who dedicate so much of their time to our sport.”
Stefano Domenicali, president and CEO of F1, said, “Our journey to a more sustainable calendar will continue in the coming years as we further streamline operations as part of our Net Zero 2030 commitment.”
