Real Madrid and Belgium goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois is reportedly set to form a team in Spanish Formula 4 next season, alongside former F1 driver Roberto Merhi.
The team, widely reported in Spain to be given the name ‘TC Racing’ after the football star’s initials, could even debut in the junior series next season.
Courtois is known to be a massive motorsport fan and a keen sim racer, and has been spotted in the Formula 1 paddock on multiple occasions in the past, including in Monaco earlier this season.
Thibaut Courtois reportedly set to hand young drivers a chance in motorsport
Multiple reports in Spain have emerged that Courtois is partnering with former Marussia driver Merhi to form the team, who is being reported by AS to have an advisory role in the move.
TC Racing is expected to begin life in Spanish F4 before potentially expanding into other junior series, with Spanish F4 often one of the first steps on the single-seater ladder for drivers once they graduate from karting.
This year’s edition of the series sees five rounds of three races take place on Spanish circuits such as the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya and Jerez, as well as rounds at Estoril in Portugal and Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium.
AS also claim Courtois’ effort does not yet have a “concrete structure”, but the team is looking at people to bring aboard to the project for next season.
What is Thibaut Courtois’ connection to motorsport?
Known to be a big fan of Formula 1, Courtois has been spotted on the grid and in the paddock at multiple races in the past, and was one of the ‘celebrity’ guests to race in the F1 Esports Virtual Grand Prix series during the Covid-19 pandemic, racing alongside actual Formula 1 drivers in doing so.
In a particularly brave overtake against Alex Albon at Silverstone, the now-Williams driver exclaimed: “How is he so fast?! What is this? What engine has he got?!”

Meanwhile, a chuckling George Russell added in the background: “You’ve just been overtaken by a professional goalkeeper!”
Courtois has been a guest of Williams more recently too, and has also appeared on a video in the past released by Real Madrid with huge Madridista, Carlos Sainz, playing against him on FIFA.
